Detecting Broken Strands in Transmission Lines Based on Pulsed Eddy Current

نویسندگان

چکیده

High-voltage transmission lines are the main facilities for power transmission, and they mainly composed of aluminum conductor steel-reinforced (ACSR). Over long-term outdoor use, overhead will encounter lightning strikes, chemical pollutant corrosion, deicing, wind vibration, other external forces. This often results in a series potential failures, such as breakage, strands. In order to ensure safe operation grid avoid fatal accidents, line breaks, it is necessary identify repair faults. Among them, basis regular detection replacement high-voltage whether broken strand defect appears. this paper, type pulsed eddy current (PEC) sensor developed detect lines. The simulation experimental showed that designed PEC could effectively accurately fault.

Pulsed eddy current empirical modeling

The pulsed eddy current responses to varying material thickness and conductivity are modeled using an electrical circuit ideal transformer non-linear model. The Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm is used to curve fit the experimental signal to the model. The resulting synthetic signal is examined for its ability to preserve experimental signal features such as lift-off point of intersection (LOI), a...

Fault Location on Compensated Transmission Lines without Current Measurement

This paper presents a novel fault location method for series compensated transmission lines. It is established based on synchronized voltages sampling and Thevenin impedance from both ends of series compensated transmission line. The method is based on the use of phasor measurement units (PMU) technology which is aimed to be independent of current measurements, fault type, fault resistance, fau...

An S-Transform and Support Vector Machine (SVM)-Based Online Method for Diagnosing Broken Strands in Transmission Lines

During their long-term outdoor field service, overhead transmission lines will be exposed to strikes by lightning, corrosion by chemical contaminants, ice-shedding, wind vibration of conductors, line galloping, external destructive forces and so on, which will generally cause a series of latent faults such as aluminum strand fracture. This may lead to broken transmission lines which will have a...

Transmission expansion planning based on merchandizing surplus of transmission lines

This paper proposes an optimal transmission expansion planning (TEP) which is based on determining share of each line in merchandizing surplus (MS) of system, determining by Independent System Operator (ISO). The more share of a line in MS of system denotes the priority of a line for expansion. The procedure of determining MS of each line in a power system is based on determining the MS share o...

Wavelet based signal analysis of pulsed eddy current signals

This paper deals with response signals processing in eddy current non-destructive testing. Non-sinusoidal excitation is utilized to drive eddy currents in a conductive specimen. The response signals due to a notch with variable depth are calculated by numerical means. The signals are processed in order to evaluate the depth of the notch. Wavelet transformation is used for this purpose. Obtained...
